I woke up Saturday morning and decided I was going to travel to Zurich, Switzerland. No specific reason why I picked there. I think just because it seemed a little closer on the map than a lot of other places I want to go. I had no idea what I was doing. I just drove to downtown Kaiserslautern not even knowing where the train station was. I found it eventually and it was pretty easy buying a ticket. I eventually got there and found a place to stay at around 8 or 9 at night. I woke up the next day and walked around the city. The city is really nice and fancy but that is about it. There isn't anything I noticed that seemed very interesting, just fancy. I found a city tour bus which made the trip. It was a four and a half hour tour that takes you through the city by bus and also to the top of a small mountain near the city by cable car. We drove by some interesting places like a University that Einstein taught at and by FIFA (international federation of football) headquarters which is a big deal for soccer fans. Here are the pictures.....

Trier
Last Sunday I was bored so I got in my rental car and drove to Trier about an hour away from here. Trier is the oldest city in Germany and was once a European Roman capital city. I found a parking space and just walked around for a couple hours. I ran across the Porta Nigra, the Roman Baths, the Cathedral of Trier, the Palace of Trier, and a few others. You can read about them at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trier. Here are some pictures. My plans for the next couple of weeks are to visit Switzerland by train tomorrow, then next weekend I am going to Prague with some friends, and possibly to Rome the following weekend.

My first few weeks
Hello everyone, I created this blog just for my travelling and to keep you all informed on what life is like in Germany. I arrived here on the 21st of January. My in-processing at the base was a nightmare. I guess it can't be a simple process because after all, I did just move to another country. They would have me drive one place saying I needed some "forms" and then I would get sent right back to the previous place, if that makes any sense. This happened about 100 times within the two weeks.

Anyways, I will quit my complaining. I am getting settled in a little better now. I found an apartment in a village called Weilerbach just outside of Kaiserslautern. Kaiserslautern is a major city and there are many villages surrounding it, including several US military bases. Here are some pictures of my apartment. The apartment is 105 square meters (about 1130 square feet) so there is plenty of room for whoever wants to visit. I could have actually found something nicer but I was sold on the view from the balcony. The rent is monthly so if I find another place I like better later on, I will move.
